Description
Product Description In the hilarious and heartwarming family comedy, one of sports toughest players ever takes on his biggest challenge yet fatherhood! A superstar with an ego bigger than a football field, Joe Kingman (Dwayne The Rock Johnson) is getting ready for a run at the big championship game when the 8-year-old daughter he never knew existed shows up at his not-so-family-friendly bachelor pad. As the big game gets closer, he begins to realize the most meaningful win he can achieve is the heart of the one little fan who counts the most. Amazon.com "When you look at me, what do you see?" pontificates football star Joe Kingman, then provides the answer: "Greatness." Well, clearly an ego like that needs to be brought down to size--pint-size. The winning family comedy The Game Plan has a whole lot going for it, including star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who's a natural comedic actor (and the camera loves him), and the young actress (Madison Pettis) who plays the daughter he didn't know he had, Peyton. The plot doesn't break much new ground, since many films have mined the territory of the self-indulgent child-adult who suddenly "inherits" a child (from Three Men and a Baby to Baby Boom to Big Daddy to Raising Helen). But thanks to the charismatic performance of Johnson, the film is winsome and uplifting. Johnson's comic timing and straight-man face are spot-on, as is his warm chemistry with the sweet-faced Pettis. Also giving notable performances are the lovely Roselyn Sanchez as Peyton's ballet teacher, and Kyra Sedgwick as Kingman's hard-nosed agent who's aghast at the appearance of an out-of-wedlock child. Children and adults both can enjoy the movie's warm-and-fuzzy moral of making family where you find it--or where it finds you. --A.T. Hurley Set Contains: Bonus features abound including "Chalk Talk," an exclusive Blu-ray commentary track that features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and director Andy Fickman in a play by play analysis of the movie complete with telestration (on-screen chalk marks) and freeze frame detailing. There's a definite camaraderie between the two men and an undercurrent of pure fun, as the pair explores the authenticity of the childhood photographs sprinkled throughout Joe Kingman's apartment; the sweet and talented Madison Pettis; the many celebrity and crew cameos in the party and crowd scenes; the crew's distinction of being one of the first allowed to film in the actual ESPN studio; and the vision behind some specific shots. A full 26 minutes of deleted and extended scenes offers an optional commentary by Andy Fickman that explores everything from filming in the ESPN Studios and at the Boston Ballet School with Roselyn Sanchez to the casting of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft as the owner of the Boston Rebels in the film. Sportscaster Marv Albert hosts the Albert Achievement Awards highlighting various bloopers in categories like "props," "best attempts," "forgetfuls," "fun with food," and "kids and dogs." Also featured are two ESPN SportsCenter segments: the five minute "The King in Search of a Ring" in which ESPN's Stuart Scott interviews a host of the fictitious Joe Kingman's closest friends about what the quarterback is really like; and a more serious three-minute "The Rock Learns to Play QB," where Sean Salisbury interviews The Rock about his past football experiences and the challenges of learning to play quarter back for the film. "Drafting the Game Plan" is a 20-minute exploration of just how The Game Plan was put together and includes a look at the stuntwork, choreography, casting, and The Rock's serious injury during filming. Finally, "Peyton's Makeover Madness" gives kids a chance to "bedazzle" a good portion of Joe Kingman's living room by using their remote. Other blu-ray extras include a Peyton-inspired menu background option and D Box integrated motion system capability. --Tami Horiuchi See more
